The grit trucks are currently on the road so please be aware and drive to the conditions.

Some roads may not yet have been treated as crews have been busy with issues caused by the flooding. Dozens of residents who were evacuated from areas such as the Henley township, the lower part of Outram and other parts of the Taieri Plain and Mosgiel spent a second night away from their homes, but the situation will be re-assessed this morning to see if they can return home.

There are more than 25 slips on roads around the wider city, many of them on the Otago Peninsula. Some areas are effectively cut off, such as residents on the Peninsula north of Harwood, where no alternative access route is available.

The DCC and its contractors are doing everything they can to restore access as quickly as possible, but it will take months to clear all the slips. There have also been slips on private property and DCC building inspectors and emergency services have been providing advice and assistance.

People need to be aware there is still widespread debris and damage and motorists must drive carefully and to the conditions.
